We have several modelling projects in various stages of completion ranging in scales from 2mm/foot through to 7mm/foot. For more details of these please select one of the layouts below.

Events.

Annual Exhibition Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October

Another year, another exhibition has come and gone. Early indications are that the society had another sucessful model railway show weekend and planning for next years show will commence soon. The best visiting layout trophy was awarded to St. George's Quay and the best club/club member's layout was awarded to Smethurst Junction.

News.

Sadly, the society learned during last week that one of our long time members, Nik Bak had passed away suddenly.

Nik was also a member of nearby New Mills & District Railway Modeller's and over the years had supported both
clubs annual exhibitions with his demonstrations and model building in O gauge. He was also an independent jazz
music tutor specializing in saxophones. All the club members will miss him.

Our thoughts go to his wife and family.

Summary of Layouts.

* Ash Valley A 0 scale layout. Constructed to 'flexible' standards with some interesting household items used for modelling materials. It is an imaginary location where a private railway meets the Midland and London & North Western Railways, somewhere near Manchester.
* High Peak Tramway . A mature 0n16.5 narrow gauge layout. Even though it is modelled to the highest standards changes and improvements are constantly in progress.Includes photos.
* Chessie Systems An American layout, based on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. After a successful period as a circular layout, it is now undergoing reconstruction to change it to an end-to-end configuration - photos coming soon
* Hazel Valley is a large 00 scale layout. This is the largest in the club and hence our main project. It depicts exchange sidings between the Hope Valley line (ex Midland Railway) and a branch line to quarries. The layout can be operated in almost era from the 1950s until the present day. The layout has recently gained a small wayside station a la Monsal Dale.
* Smethurst Junction is a 00 scale layout set in North-East Manchester during the 1990s and is served by a regular service of DMUs to/from Manchester and beyond. There is also an engineers yard and locomotive serving point. Further along is the Industrial Wire-works which receives frequent trainloads of raw materials. This layout is currently under construction and has recently been extended - new photos arriving soon
* Walmington is a 4mm finescale layout set on the East Anglian coast during the 1950s. This layout is also under construction at the time of writing.

Layout Running Nights

New or prospective members may be interested to know that the club holds regular running nights when some of the club layouts are operated in the club rooms for the purposes of testing and maintenance, so its an ideal time to come along and ask questions and see how the layout is being modelled and operated. Future dates for 2009 will see the following layouts on these Friday evenings -

6th Nov - Walmington and Smethurst Junction

Facilities.

We also have the very British ritual tea drinking ceremony mid way through each of our club meetings, so a strong bladder is a pre-requisite ! Sample prices are Tea or Coffee at 20p and biscuits from 10p.
